5. Reflection
Experience
Over the past 14 weeks, my experience with this module has been a rewarding
and enriching journey. While the initial weeks were admittedly stressful,
Mr. Vinod's consistent feedback—both general and specific—helped reassure me
of my progress throughout the semester. His teaching structure is
exceptionally well-organized, giving students ample time to complete tasks
effectively. Additionally, his pre-recorded lectures proved invaluable,
offering the flexibility to learn at one’s own pace without being confined
to classroom schedules. That being said, Mr. Vinod’s in-class teaching was
equally impactful. With his deep familiarity with the content of his
pre-recorded lectures, he was always well-prepared to address any questions
raised during class discussions.
Observations
I observed that I developed a deeper appreciation for the Adobe Suite
throughout this module. Watching how seamlessly Mr. Vinod utilized the tools
and shortcuts was particularly inspiring and motivated me to learn and
explore the application further. This was especially evident in the final
weeks when he assisted students in fine-tuning their fonts directly on their
laptops. Initially, I assumed that font design required a specialized
application. While that’s true for the final steps (FontLab 7), Adobe
Illustrator serves as the essential first step in creating the font before
transitioning to FontLab for refinement and finalization.
Findings
Throughout the semester, I found myself becoming increasingly particular
about typefaces, even for projects in other modules. I like to think of it
as a healthy habit. There were times I’d spend up to 30 minutes browsing
sites like Dafont and Google Fonts, searching for the
‘perfect’ typeface for a project. Reflecting on this, I’ve realized just how
much this module has influenced me—it’s remarkable how impactful type truly
is.
