Bass Tech Ltd (Wireless Headphones)
Company Name: Bass Tech Ltd
Product: One pair of wireless headphones (non-folding).
Product Size: Height 19cm, Width 13.5cm (Ear cup size: Height 7.5cm, Depth 6cm).
Target Market: All ages, but teenagers in particular. The headphones are fun and colourful.
Current Problem: Headphones are damaged during postage (ordered online and posted to customers).
Packaging Goal: Design new packaging that provides better protection during posting and holds the non-folding headphones securely. The box must be easy to open, easily stored before posting, and display the company logo clearly.
Branding Goal: Design a brand new logo to give the company a fresh look and appeal to the target audience, reflecting the fun and colourful product.
2. Process
To begin, I created a FigJam board for our group to work on the task. We we first tasked to come up with a research document that contained materials such as:
- Visual reference
- Research on similar product
- Packaging reference (type of box)
- Mood board
- Visual Style
- Sketches
Most important was the logo sketches. Fig 2.0 shows our collection of ideas that were to be shown to Mr. Shamsul.
Mine is at the top, leaning more towards a retro-style in its colors and the movement of the logo. I looked into potential box and foam types we could use later when we come up with the physical box itself.

After our Week 9 consultation, we were told we could proceed with any one of Aidina's three selected logo sketches.
What I noted from Mr Shamsul - Refine selected logos, determine what 'fun' is - can be through colors, font, or graphics

The FigJam is updated and is more organized as of writing this. You can take a look at our board by clicking here.
With a logo direction now, we are to come up with a mockup design of the box. However, since the picture of the headset were to be self-sourced, we ordered a cheap wireless headphone from Shopee so we can take the photos.
Once we had our photos, we each created a mockup design to present to Mr. Shamsul in Week 10. We also utilized all three logos across our mockups so we could fully explore each design direction.
For my design, I stuck to the retro theme and want to incorporate both fun and premium in all 3 aspects - graphic, color, and typography.

On Week 10, we presented our mockups to Mr. Shamsul, and he liked each design. We mentioned that we were going more to the premium side, and he took a liking more towards Aidina's (top left) design. He mentioned that my font use (top right) was too playful and it may not communicate premium as much as the other two designs.
With that, we finalise with Aidina's design and work on coming up with the dieline and final mockup designs for submission.

The physical box is to be submitted by Week 13, and we are currently planning the process for it.
3. Reflection
As our first group project, it was a great experience collaborating with others on the packaging design. We developed our own individual design directions from concept to final look, allowing us to provide a variety of options during consultations. Although we had to purchase a wireless headphone to get our self-sourced photos, my groupmates made the process seamless, and I am very grateful for their support. Furthermore, while this task originally required submitting only the physical box, Mr. Shamsul permitted us to submit both the physical box and the user manual together in Week 13.
