Experience

This module focused on video and sound production. It helped me understand the basics of pre-production, production, and post-production while also introducing tools like Adobe Premiere Pro and a bit of After Effects. I learned about cinematic techniques such as camera angles and shot types, which gave me a clearer picture of how film scenes are put together.

One part I enjoyed the most was the audio dubbing task. I had fun experimenting with sound effects and finding really niche audio clips that didn’t seem like they would fit at first, but somehow worked when placed in the scene. I liked the process of taking something unexpected and making it make sense. It was satisfying, even if it is a bit hard to explain.

The most challenging part was definitely the final project. It was meant to be done in pairs, but I ended up doing everything on my own because there were not enough students to match up evenly. It was tough balancing all the work by myself, especially with time constraints, but I do not really see it as something to complain about. It was just part of the experience. I think a random partner system might help in situations like that, but in the end, I managed.

A memorable moment for me was during the production shoot for Project 2. I had to take the role of the main actor, not because I wanted to, but because I was the only male in the group. Personally, that kind of threw off my vibe, but I kept things professional. I am the type of person who knows when to put emotions aside and just get the work done. Even though I was not very confident in the lead role, I stepped up because it had to be done. I did get along with some of the group members, which made the process a bit easier.

Observation

At the start of the module, I felt genuinely excited just from the name alone. I had expectations about what it would involve, and that motivated me to put in effort early on. I spent time going through the materials Mr. Martin uploaded on Teams and completed the quizzes to test my understanding. Going over the answers the next day in class, along with Mr. Martin's deeper explanations of certain terms, helped reinforce my learning. I found that this method of studying on my own first, then clarifying in class, was especially effective for me.

Working with others during exercises or projects was not a problem. I found that clear communication makes a big difference. As long as I did my part in keeping things clear and focused, the group was able to complete the tasks smoothly. I personally enjoyed the practical sessions with everyone, even if I am not sure they felt the same way.

There was a point when Mr. Martin introduced a VFX tutorial that was a bit complex. I missed some parts during the session, so I turned to YouTube and used the slides he uploaded to catch up. That helped me fill in the gaps and continue learning outside of class time.

Near the end of the module, time management became a bigger challenge. With assignments coming in from different directions, it was hard to keep up at times. Even though my overall approach to learning stayed the same, I definitely felt more pressure as the workload increased.

Findings

One of the key things I learned from this module is the proper way to edit clips in Premiere Pro. There are specific techniques for inserting and trimming clips as well as organizing files effectively. I remember Mr Martin stressing the importance of file organization and using shortcuts right from the first week, and that really stuck with me.

I feel more confident now in all three stages of production: pre-production, production and post-production. I have a better understanding of how everything fits together and what is expected at each stage.

Throughout the module, I improved a range of skills including editing, teamwork, sound design, communication and time management. It was a bit of everything, which helped me get a well-rounded experience without focusing too much on one area.

I believe this module will be useful for future production projects, especially those that require Premiere Pro and After Effects. It has given me a solid foundation to build on and more confidence to take on similar tasks in the future.
