5. Reflection
Experience
Coming into the module, I did not have many expectations since I have had Mr. Vinod before and already knew the vibe. It was expected to be serious but enjoyable, especially with the same group of students from last semester. The first few tasks were okay, though one stood out because I mistakenly used a painting as the source for a letterform exercise, which was a bit embarrassing. Other than that, the assignments were clear and well structured.
My workflow stayed mostly the same throughout. I continued using Adobe Illustrator and kept learning the app through consistent use. The pace of the module felt faster this semester, which was challenging, given the heavy workload of other modules. Even so, the one-on-one feedback from Mr. Vinod was something I still found helpful.
Observation
I still found myself slacking off at times, even though I aimed to be more consistent. That is something I need to work on moving forward. The module was largely self-directed, requiring me to find my own learning materials and work through challenges independently. While this was sometimes difficult, it helped me develop greater responsibility for my progress. The weekly feedback sessions with Mr. Vinod were especially valuable, as they helped me identify issues I might have missed on my own.
A highlight of the module was the TDC file we received. It contained a variety of font presentations and applications I had not seen before, which broadened my understanding of typography and its possibilities.
Findings
One important lesson I learned is that I cannot always rely on my tutor to catch every detail. I need to make my own judgments and decisions based on what I have learned. My overall approach to typography has not changed much. I still love and appreciate it, but this module encouraged me to think more about self-discovery — figuring out what I like and what my ideal brand identity is. That was a fun and valuable part of the process. I am proud of the work I did, especially my wordmark, collaterals, and the font I created for Task 3.
