Week 7: Double Exposure
Week 7 Lecture
Mr. Fauzi lectured on Color Theory and Double Exposure. He explained how colour harmony works and why it's effective to consider when designing. There was also a segment on the psychology of color and how specific colors provoke specific emotions.
1. Double Exposure Process
Part 1
I started by selecting the subject using the quick selection tool and then masking the subject.

Then, I made a solid colour layer as my background and placed it under the portrait.

Now, I will have to increase the contrast for the portrait layer. I added a 'Curves' adjustment layer and made an 'S' curve to do that. Once done, I select the clipping mask and apply it to the portrait.

For the next step, I must mask the forest picture into the portrait.

In the clipping mask of the forest, we now have to unmask her face. Setting the brush tool to 175 pixels with a hardness of 69%, I started brushing.

Next is to duplicate the forest and mask it into the neck.

Now, add the rest of the pictures and remove the white background.

To finish, I refined the brushing of the face, added a gradient map fill layer, and adjusted its opacity.

Part 2
Part 2 required me to compose a double-exposure edit with a photo of myself.
Using Part 1's picture as my reference, I created my version using the same elements provided in Task 1's folder.

2. Reflection
In week seven, we learned about double exposure, using layers, adjustment layers, and new techniques like masking, gradient maps, and adjusting opacity. I really enjoyed the process and was happy with the outcomes, though I feel I could have fine-tuned mine further. Overall, it was a fun and creative exercise that helped me explore new tools in Photoshop.
